Charlie Don't Surf - Live
w/ Dissent and Revolt, & more

Thursday October 4 2007

Tonight Inferno and WORT 89.9FM present CHARLIE DON'T SURF - LIVE. The music begins promptly when the bar opens at 9PM with an hour long DJ mix from JAKE SHUT, host of long running WORT radio show Charlie Donít Surf, featuring his trademark uptempo and underground mix of punk, indie rock, garage, metal, hardcore, stoner, hip hop, Americana, no wave and various obscure blasts from the past. The DJing is interrupted throughout the night for LIVE PERFORMANCES from three regional acts, handpicked by Jake Shut, who play their sets after 10PM. Tonight features: DISSENT AND REVOLT [metal / experimental / hardcore - Madison, WI] DISSENT AND REVOLT push the limits of technicality with quick, dynamic energy shifts full of almighty groove and pummeling metal aggression. The goal is to continue writing, expanding songs and to play live as often as possible, the more the better. Thus far, they have already opened for and played with Dillinger Escape Plan, Dysrhythmia, Weedeater, Skeletonwitch, Vader, Kataklysm, Graveworm, Destruction, Mirror Black, Erebus, Speed/Kill/Hate, Malice In Wonderland, and The Ottoman Empire, among many others. LEBANON [Tel Aviv, Israel] Lebanon are an instrumental band from Tel Aviv, Israel who blend metal, prog and psychedelic elements into their layered and complex compositions. Many things influence them: records, beer, art, women, philosophy and the political catastrophe that is their country. Their first album, Sunken City has been widely praised in Israel and getting them signed to Austin, Texas' Australian Cattle God Records. Many reviewers describe Lebanon as a "post-rock montage", a very diversely influenced, impatient and dense version of "epic" post rock. Lebanon has toured the US twice and Europe once. Planet Rubble was recorded at the peak of their first US tour in September of '06 at Mars Studio in Bellingham, WA. They are currently touring the states in September and October for a coast to coast 40+ show tour culminating at the CMJ Music Marathon in NYC. UNITED SONS OF TOIL The United Sons of Toil are a collective deeply rooted in the grinding noise and math rock that bubbled up from the Midwest during the mid '90s. This is not suggest that the Sons are a retro band in any sense, simply that the hoarse vocals, guitar damage, starts and stops, and sometimes-convoluted arrangements and time signatures hark back to a time when labels like Touch and Go, AmRep, and Dischord lorded over the indie-rock landscape.
